Our Best Friend and Lord, Jesus Christ

There’s something comforting about having a best friend you can turn to for advice, someone who listens without judgment and offers wisdom from a place of love. For many of us, that friend is Jesus Christ. What is even more comforting is that He’s not just a friend, but our Lord and Saviour—someone who knows us more intimately than anyone else ever could.

When life gets rough, and even when things are going well, Jesus is always there, ready to listen. Whether I am wrestling with a big decision, dealing with disappointment, or just trying to make sense of daily life, I know I can come to Him for guidance. I don’t have to schedule an appointment or wonder if He’ll be available. He’s always there, waiting for you and I to reach out to Him. After all, He isn’t a distant, abstract figure. He’s a personal friend who understands our struggles and joys because He experienced life as we do. He walked this earth, felt pain, faced temptation, and knew what it meant to be human. This makes Him the perfect person to turn to when we need counsel or comfort. He knows what it’s like to feel saddened, to be misunderstood, or to face difficult choices.

One of the most beautiful things about consulting with Jesus is that I don’t have to have all the right words. Sometimes, when we pray, we might feel like we need to say something eloquent or profound, but that’s not the case. Jesus knows our hearts. Even when we don’t know what to say, He understands. A simple, “Lord, help me,” is all it takes to start a conversation with Him. Unlike human friends, who might offer advice based on their own experiences or opinions, Jesus gives us perfect wisdom. His guidance always leads us toward peace and truth, even when it’s not the easiest path. Sometimes, His answers might not be what we expect or want to hear, but they are always what’s best for us. When we trust in His direction, we find that His way leads to joy and fulfilment in ways we never could have imagined.

Another comforting thing is that Jesus is always patient with us. If we have made mistakes, He’s there, not with condemnation, but with open arms, ready to help us get back on track. He’s the friend who forgives endlessly and loves unconditionally. Consulting with Him isn’t just about seeking advice—it’s about deepening our relationship with Him. The more we talk to Him, the more we grow to know Him and trust Him. At the same, His grace and forgiveness is not an excuse to sin.

In moments when we seek His guidance, we can turn to Scripture to be reminded of His promise to listen and lead us. Jesus Himself says in Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He invites us to bring our troubles to Him, trusting that He will provide the rest and clarity we need. In James 1:5, we are reminded, “But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” When we come to Jesus with our questions and concerns, we can rest assured that He will grant us the wisdom we need to walk through life’s challenges. Finally, in John 15:15, Jesus calls us His friends: “No longer do I call you servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I heard from my Father I have made known unto you.” Consulting with Jesus is not just about receiving answers—it’s about experiencing His deep love and friendship in every aspect of our lives.

The next time you’re faced with a decision or feeling overwhelmed, remember that Jesus is right there, ready to listen and guide you. You don’t have to have all the answers, and you don’t have to face anything alone. Our best friend and Lord is always with us, offering wisdom, comfort, and love.

Take a moment and talk to Him. He’s waiting, and He’s always happy to hear from you.
