All praise to Jesus Christ, the Son of God; glory and honor to the Father, Son and to the Holy Spirit!
This site provides information for the small number of members of the Old Orthodox Church in Communion with the Holy See, under the omophorion (mantle) of H.H. Patriarch Seraphim Michael. Members come from English, Greek, Russian and Syriac backgrounds.
The Canon of Scripture Used by the Church
The P’shitta (Aramaic Peshitta) and the Septuagint (LXX Greek) were the standard Scriptures of the Apostolic Church of Jerusalem in the first century and continue to be so within certain jurisdictions. The English speaking Old Orthodox Church uses the Greek text and translations from the same (but does not exclude the original Aramaic), which includes what is commonly called the “Old Testament,” “Old Testament Apocrypha,” and the “New Testament.” The Church accepts the Didache and portions of Josephus’ writings as canonical Scripture.
English speaking Orthodox are encouraged to read Brenton’s English Septuagint (LXX) and the Orthodox Study Bible. (see “Policy on Authorised Bible Translations for Lectionary Readings in the Orthodox Church“).
There are some minor differences in calendar observances and fasts, but in most cases, the Lectionary is the same as that used by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America of which we are not affiliated.
Divine Liturgy and Special Convocations
Divine Liturgy is observed at specific dates and times at the Paris Civic Center Meeting Room at 650 Volunteer Drive. During convocations, facilities at Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing in Louisville are reserved. There is limited space in the chapel, so please be sure to let your priest know of your intentions of visiting during convocations. Please contact your priest or write to Bishop Andrew’s secretary for necessary details. Inclement weather often necessitates closure of facilities.
The Church is not under the authority of or in communion with any other Orthodox Christian jurisdiction nor do we seek union with them. For those making inquiries about holy orders, please note that we do not believe in “online” or “automated ordinations”. We do not consider anyone ordained outside the one holy Catholic Church to be clergy. We do not solicit contributions from those who are not members of the Church.
